IDEA 316: Pre-design

Description

Pre-design is the stage where early decisions are made before design begins, and it is a crucial phase for stating inclusive design objectives. The pre-design phase focuses on project vision and goals, programming, site and building analyses, project cost and feasibility, and a review of planning and zoning regulations. Inclusive design gives precedence to some of these areas over others. This course examines the unique considerations for inclusive design as it relates to each of these pre-design activities.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to…

1. Identify the diverse team members of an inclusive design project team, and describe their primary roles and responsibilities.
2. Describe the various research methods necessary for an inclusive design project.
3. Demonstrate how the programming phase of an inclusive design project differs from traditional design projects.
4. Identify the most important budget factors for an inclusive design project and explain the concepts of value proposition and social capital.

Format

Students must create a udeducation.org account and purchase the course. Access to this course begins immediately.

To complete this course, students must complete approximately 1.25 hours of work anytime during a 1-year window of availability. Specifically, students must:

1. Watch the narrated video in its entirety.
2. Correctly answer at least 7 out of 10 multiple-choice test questions within a single 20-minute session.

A certificate of completion will be provided on the course website following successful completion. Access certificates for expired courses anytime on the My Profile page.
